Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers15 December: Teapot or cafetiéreWhen it comes to teapots and cafetiéres, there’s plenty of choice around. A stainless steel cafetiére is practical – almost impossible to break, and good for keeping the coffee warm. For a more imaginative option, how about a literary teapot?

Every day from 1 December I've been posting a gift idea for editorial freelancers. Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers 14 December: Pantone giftsThere’s something very appealing about Pantone, the colour-matching system that’s widely used in product design, graphic design and printing. The company has recently announced that its colour of the year for 2018 is Ultra Violet, but a Pantone gift in any favourite shade would suit just as well. There are plenty of products available, including (unofficial) Pantone-inspired bags, mugs, t-shirts, cushions, notebooks and phone cases. Everything you need to make this Christmas a colourful one!
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers 13 December: NotebooksMany freelancers find notebooks useful, whether for planning work, making to-do lists or jotting down creative ideas. But some notebooks are just too nice to use…
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers 12 December: HouseplantsHouseplants make a wonderful addition to the home office. Not only do they brighten up a workspace, they can actually enhance air quality, increasing the humidity and reducing carbon monoxide levels. There are lots of varieties to choose from, including some that are particularly recommended for their air-cleaning properties. It’s worth thinking about the space, heat and light available, and avoiding anything that’s toxic to pets – or to people!
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers11 December: Pens and pencilsMany editors and proofreaders have a thing about pens and pencils, even if they no longer use them much in their work. Cult Pens offer a whole range of specialist items for professional use, or if you prefer the novelty option, why not choose something like these De-Motivational Pencils from Present Indicative?
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers10 December: SfEP membershipThis would be a great time to become a member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP). Benefits include networking and professional development opportunities, peer support, and discounts on a range of books, products and services. If you join between September and December you’ll pay only half the full year subscription fee (new membership year starts on 1 March). Or join in January or February and you won’t have to renew until 1 March in the following year.
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers9 December: Under-desk cycleLike the sit/stand desk featured on 1 December, an under-desk cycle is a big-ticket item that requires some planning and may not suit everyone’s set-up. But it could be a great option for those who want to pedal the day away while remaining seated at their desk. Editor Laura Ripper travels miles every week without leaving her office!
Seasonal gifts for editorial freelancers 8 December: Keeping warmSelf-care is important for the home-based freelancer, and this weekend's weather forecast for the UK reminds us that keeping warm is one of the cornerstones of freelance life. Putting the heating on is an option, but there are certainly other ways to stay snug. What about fingerless gloves, thermal undies, a fleecy throw, or a woolly hat?
